Since October 2009, NEVO data have been available online. In November 2023, a new NEVO-online version was released: version 2023/8.0, providing information on energy and approximately 130 nutrients of 2323 food items.

The Dutch Food Composition Database is owned by the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sports and managed and maintained by dietitians and datamanagers of RIVM.

NEVO is part of NethFIR (Netherlands Food Information Resource), a database containing nutritional information (nutrients, allergens, features like sustainability and portion size) concerning brand foods and generic foods.

The Dutch Dietary Supplement Database (in Dutch: NES) is a complementary database to NEVO. NES contains the composition of dietary supplements often used in The Netherlands. Nearly 2600 supplements are registered, of which single and combined vitamin and mineral supplements and other products such as fish oils, glucosamines or echinacea.

In the past decades several European projects (e.g. INFOODS, COST99, EuroFIR) worked on improving quality and exchangeability of data in national food composition databases. This European standardisation does not only affect the data in these databases, it will also have impact for the users. Increased comparability of food composition data has resulted in improved comparability of food consumption data between countries.

Regularly a newsletter is disseminated electronically with nutrition-related news from RIVM.
