Over the past few weeks, 288 people in the Netherlands have tested positive for monkeypox. The number of new daily infections seems to be slowly increasing.

This afternoon, a patient with monkeypox was confirmed in the Netherlands for the first time. RIVM researchers confirmed that the person has monkeypox with a PCR test.

During the last heatwave, almost 400 more deaths were reported than was expected on overage for that period. The additional deaths mainly concerned persons aged 75 years and older.

As of Monday, 29 July, the National Heat Plan is no longer in effect. The Heat Plan had been active from July 23rd until July 28th. Never before has it been as hot as last week in the Netherlands.

It is forecasted to be exceptionally hot over the coming days. Temperatures will rise to tropical levels. This can lead to problems for people with vulnerable health.

As of Wednesday, August 8th 2018, the National Heat Plan is no longer in effect. The temperatures will be lower as of Wednesday.

On August 2, 2018, the National Heat Plan has been activated for the provinces Limburg, Noord-Brabant, Gelderland, Utrecht, Overijssel and Drenthe.

The National Heat Plan became active in the Netherlands on June 19th. This means that it is necessary to take preventive health measures for vulnerable groups.
