From 27 August 2024 on, the first people will receive an invitation for COVID-19 vaccination. RIVM will send the invitations to people aged 60 years and older. The COVID-19 vaccination will be given from 16 September to 6 December 2024 at vaccination centres operated by the Municipal Public Health Services (GGDs).

COVID-19 vaccination offers extra protection

The coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 is still present and may surge again. For people who have a higher risk of serious illness due to COVID-19, the COVID-19 vaccination offers extra protection against hospital admission or death due to COVID-19.

Invitation letter

Everyone aged 60 years and older will receive a letter from RIVM about the COVID-19 vaccination. People aged 90 and under who received a COVID-19 vaccination last year already have a proposed time slot for an appointment in the letter. Others are invited to make an appointment with the Municipal Public Health Services (GGDs). You can make an appointment from August 27 via planjeprik.nl or 0800-7070.

Making an appointment without a letter

Adults (people aged 18 to 59 years) who are invited to get the seasonal flu vaccine each year can also get the COVID-19 vaccination. This also applies to children and adults with serious medical conditions, for example involving severely impaired immunity. Care workers who have direct contact with vulnerable patients are also eligible. These groups will not receive a letter from RIVM. They can make an appointment themselves from 27 Augustus via planjeprik.nl or 0800-7070.

This also applies to adults and children who are not in the target groups, but would still like to receive a COVID-19 vaccination due to a vulnerable family member or as advised by a treating physician.

Recommendations to prevent respiratory infections

Some people can become very ill from infections caused by a coronavirus, influenza virus (flu) or cold virus. It is therefore still important for everyone to follow the recommendations to prevent respiratory infections.

GGD vaccination locations

The Municipal Public Health Services (GGDs) throughout the country will start giving the COVID-19 vaccination on 16 September, continuing until 6 December 2024, using the mRNA vaccine made by Pfizer/BioNTech against the JN.1 variant of SARS-CoV-2.

People living in residential care institutions will receive the COVID-19 vaccination in the care facility itself. They will receive more information about this from the care institution.

People who are unable to travel to a vaccination centre on their own or with assistance, for health reasons, can contact their local GGD on 0800-7070. A mobile team from the GGD can vaccinate these people in their own home.
