As of today, the following groups of care workers will be invited for COVID-19 vaccination in the Netherlands. This involves the second group of district nursing employees and care workers in WMO-based support. Care providers funded by a personal budget (PGB) will also be invited shortly. These groups can make an appointment for vaccination with AstraZeneca via the Municipal Public Health Services (GGDs). Care workers who are aged 65 and older or who have specific medical conditions will receive the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine.
In total, about 204,000 people working in district nursing, WMO-based support and care funded by a personal budget (PGB) will be eligible for vaccination. This involves employees aged 18 and older who have direct contact with clients. Examples include people who work in nursing, care for and with clients at home, domestic help, and adult day services for vulnerable older people. The full description of the target groups is available here.
The first care workers in district nursing were invited next week. The care workers in district nursing and WMO-based support will receive the invitation from their employer. PGB-funded care providers will receive an invitation shortly via the PGB authorising authorities.
Vaccination strategy
The order in which groups are vaccinated is determined by the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS). The advisory reports of the Health Council of the Netherlands are used as guidance. The start date for vaccination of the various target groups depends on vaccine availability. For the latest order of vaccination, please visit Government.nl.
