Contra-expertise on the determination of radioactivity in waste water and ventilation air of COVRA N.V. Period 2022
Samenvatting
De Centrale Organisatie voor Radioactief Afval (COVRA (Centrale Organisatie Voor Radioactief Afval)) meet hoeveel radioactiviteit zij in afvalwater en ventilatielucht loost. Het RIVM controleert elk jaar deze metingen. COVRA neemt de monsters verspreid over het jaar. Met deze 'contra-expertise' controleert het RIVM of de analyses die COVRA zelf uitvoert, betrouwbaar zijn. RIVM concludeert dat dit inderdaad het geval is.
Net als in voorgaande jaren kwamen de analyses van afvalwater uit de contra-expertise in 2022 goed overeen met de resultaten van COVRA. Het gamma-spectrometrische resultaat, de resultaten van de totaal-alfa bepaling, en de tritiumbepaling kwamen redelijk tot goed overeen. Ook de totaal bèta-meetwaarden van het RIVM en de rest bèta-meetwaarden van COVRA kwamen goed overeen ondanks de verschillende meetprincipes. Ook het resultaat in de 14C-bepaling in afvalwater kwam eveneens goed overeen.
Verder kwamen de resultaten van het RIVM en COVRA van de ventilatieluchtmonsters van het Afvalverwerkingsgebouw (AVG (algemene verordening gegevensbescherming)) en het Hoogradioactief Afval Behandelings- en Opslag Gebouw (HABOG) goed overeen voor tritium en 14C. Er is in geen enkel monster een gammaactiviteit, of een totaal-alfa of totaal-bèta activiteit in ventilatielucht gevonden.
Het RIVM voert de contra-expertises jaarlijks uit in opdracht van de Autoriteit Nucleaire Veiligheid en Stralingsbescherming (ANVS).
Abstract
The Central Organisation for Radioactive Waste (COVRA) measures the release of radioactivity in waste water and ventilation air. The RIVM performs a contra expertise on these measurements; in the period 2022 this was in a waste water sample, and in eight ventilation air sample measurements. COVRA takes the samples of wastewater and ventilation air at various time points dispersed throughout the year. This form of contra expertise is aimed at verifying and supporting the reliability of the analyses carried out by COVRA. RIVM concludes that the analyses are indeed reliable.
In 2022, the analyses in a waste water sample are generally in agreement with the results found by COVRA itself. The agreement in the results for gamma-emitters, gross alpha, and tritium was good. Considering the fact that RIVM and COVRA apply different measuring principles the agreement in the gross beta results in waste water is good too. The agreement in the RIVM and COVRA result for 14C in waste water was good as well.
In ventilation air samples of the waste treatment building (AVG) and the high activity waste storage building (HABOG) the results for 3H and 14C obtained by RIVM and COVRA are in good agreement. In ventilation air samples from AVG and HABOG no gross alpha, no gross beta and no gamma activity was found.
