Following the International Health Regulations (IHR, 2005), Member States are required to develop, strengthen and maintain their capacity to detect, assess, notify, and respond to a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC).
The WHO Collaborating Centre (CC) for Infectious Disease Preparedness and IHR Monitoring & Evaluation supports WHO in the implementation and monitoring of the IHR at country level. This entails that the Collaborating Centre supports the establishment and strengthening of core capacities and functions, required under the IHR in WHO Europe Member States, by providing technical advice on all hazard preparedness and IHR Monitoring &Evaluation (M&E). In 2017 the National Coordination Centre for Infectious Disease Control (LCI) was first assigned WHO Collaborating Centre. In 2021, the LCI was re-designated as WHO Collaborating Centre for a period of an additional four years.
