'Ensure access to water and sanitation for all' (UN United Nations  (United Nations )). RIVM develops and provides access to knowledge about water quality and health, such as the quality of drinking water and bathing waters, as well as protecting sources of potable water. This combination of knowledge makes RIVM a unique resource in the Netherlands and in Europe. We disseminate our knowledge far and wide, thus contributing to Sustainable Development Goal 6.

RIVM develops and provides access to knowledge about water quality and health, such as the quality of drinking water and bathing waters, as well as protecting sources of potable water. We do research on chemical and microbial water quality in drinking water, wastewater and bodies of water used for recreational purposes. In addition, we provide support to drinking water companies and to the government.

International

Our knowledge is shared all around the globe. We contribute to international capacity building: water quality monitoring and management in conjunction with the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the United Nations (UN United Nations  (United Nations )).

Our WHO Collaborating Centre Risk Assessment of Pathogens in Food and Water, for example, has provided training on Risk-based Drinking Water Quality Surveillance in Tajikistan.  In addition, RIVM is involved in Horizon2020 projects BlueHealth, SOPHIE, FAirWAY and HERA.  See our international projects overview for more information on our international projects contributing to SDG6.
