Some viruses, bacteria and parasites are spread in the food we eat. They can cause a variety of symptoms, including diarrhoea, vomiting, gastroenteritis, jaundice and neurological disorders.
In the
Netherlands, recent years have seen an increase in serious gastric
infections requiring hospital admission. Clearly, it is important
to ascertain the causes. More detailed research into the most
common pathogens, such as Toxoplasma, norovirus, Salmonella and
Campylobacter is needed.
